How to Make the Perfect Fall Wreath

Did you think that I was going to teach you how to make the perfect Fall wreath?

I am so not that gal, that is why I reached out to an expert.

This is a guest article from Rachael, the owner of Hammers, Nails, & Band-Aids. When she’s not out enjoying Oregon outdoors with her family, she’s doing any project she can get her hands on. Whether that be home makeovers, furniture flips, or anything DIY.

How to Make the Perfect Fall Wreath

I am so excited for fall! It means it is time for big seaters, fuzzy socks, and pumpkin everything! My favorite thing, of course, is new home décor and getting to make my home into a Fall wonderland! A great way to do that is by adding a Fall wreath.

There are many ways that you can incorporate a Fall wreath into your home. The most obvious would be for your porch or front door. The other main place where you could incorporate a wreath would be into your wall décor. The best thing about Fall wreaths? They are 100% customizable to your personal taste and home décor.

The first step you would want to take when making a Fall wreath would be to choose your base form. There are two different types; wire or styrofoam.

Tip: These can be spendy, keep an eye out for sales and coupons to get a discount.

The next thing you may want to think about is a color scheme. Do you want it to coordinate with your house color, current interior décor, or your other Fall décor items?

Take a trip to your local craft store, they are in full swing for Fall and will be able to give you more inspiration for your Fall wreath.

Now is the fun part! Once you have your color scheme in mind, you can pick out your floral pieces. There are couple terms to be aware of when shopping for these. The first is ‘pick’ this is a group of floral pieces all attached to one main stem. The other would be ‘floral snips’, basically these are just floral wire cutters.

You can create your wreath by using a few different methods. The first is to use only floral picks. This is a nice way to do it because all the pieces are already put together for you, you would just need to put them together. A second option would be to pick all your flowers separately and put them together yourself. This would be the better option if you want the color scheme to match your décor or home perfectly. The third option would be a combination of the two. You could use the picks for general color and the individual pieces as the ones that match your color scheme.

Tip: You can take the picks apart and spread out those flowers individually.

Depending on what type of wreath form you originally chose you will attach your flowers one of two ways either using floral wire (if you purchased a wire form) or with hot glue (if you purchased a styrofoam wreath). If you are using a styrofoam wreath and it is white I would recommend that you wrap it in green floral tape or spray paint it green. By doing this it will blend into the background and won’t be as noticeable if you miss a small spot with the flowers.

Take your floral pieces and lay them out so that you can see what you have. First, take your ‘filler’ and place that around your wreath. The filler would be the stem that will be the background, most of the time this is some sort of greenery. Then you would take the next floral piece you want the most of, this is the first accent or second primary color. Slowly, by this method, you can keep going until you have no more flower stems left.

Tip: You can give it a Fall pop by adding a pumpkin or pinecone pick.

The last step of making your fall wreath is hanging it. Again, there are a few different ways that you can go about doing this. The first just being a normal nail in the wall while attaching a string to the back so that it can hang. You could also wrap a coordinating ribbon around the top and hang it from that. (Seen on 30 Minute 4th of July Wreath.) A third way would be to take it one step further. On top of the wrapped ribbon, you can add a beautiful bow to accent your Fall wreath.

That’s it! Once you have finished you will have a beautiful, personalized Fall wreath for your home. I think you’ll find that it is a really easy process and can be a lot of fun creating something unique that you can bring out year after year.

What colors would you choose for your Fall wreath? Where did you decide to put yours?

  1. I love fall, it’s my favorite time of year. Boots, sweaters, pumpkins and beautiful fall wreaths. I love brown, orange and yellows in my fall decor. My front door is my go to place for seasonal and holiday wreaths. Thanks for the inspiration, and thanks for sharing on Sunday’s Best.
